Here is a taste of our performance in celebration of the late, great Dawn Hampton from Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing concert series, held every summer in Damrosch Park on the upper west side of Manhattan. We shared the stage on July 6 with the George Gee Swing Orchestra, who sounded outstanding. Our special guest for the evening was our old friend, Grammy-winning vocalist Catherine Russell, who has sung with David Bowie, Steely Dan, Cyndi Lauper, Vince Giordano, Madonna (I had to put those two names next to each other, possibly for the first time ever), and many others, and is a successful recording artist in her own right. For our final tune, Catherine and our friend Shenel Johns, who was there to sing with George Gee’s band, joined us for one of Dawn’s favorites, the Lou Rawls classic. Thanks to Will Luong for this audience video. And thanks to all of our friends who joined us for what proved to be a magical evening of music and dancing under the stars. We miss you, Dawn Hampton! The weather was perfect. Hey, they don’t call my family the Sunshines for nothing.
